Indian Institute of Architects state award is the most prestigious and authentic recognition for outstanding architectural practices in Kerala. It is organised by the IIA Kerala Chapter and hosted by IIA Kollam Center for the year 2023.
IIA Kerala State Awards 2023 encourages meaningful participation of IIA Members and intends to encourage, acknowledge, appreciate and honour their contribution towards building an architecturally responsible future for all its citizens.

Any project (public or private), as a whole or a part of it that incorporates elements/spaces envisaged for public use may be considered under this category. It could be an area or a space that is open and accessible to all, regardless of gender, age or socio-economic level that include, but not limited to, public gathering spaces such as plazas, squares, parks or even connecting spaces, such as sidewalks or streets meant for public use. The project must be currently available for public use to be eligible for nomination.
Any architectural project (public or private structure/space) or initiatives that have demonstrated a sense of responsibility towards the different fabrics of the society such as social, cultural, environmental, economical, etc. and influenced /enlightened/benefitted the public through this intervention shall be considered under this category. The projects should have had a positive response to the societal fabrics through their uniqueness. The application entry should include a write-up that elaborates the arguments in favour of consideration under this category.
The Nominations/Applications are invited from the architects on original concise Architectural Research papers, either published or not published, relevant to architecture and design practice, theory, management and education. Research papers concerning any aspect of Architecture or Design are eligible. Any research methodology is acceptable. It is intended to reward outstanding research papers, enhance research on architecture and design in cultural and commercial contexts, promote academic writing skills, and promote research engagement.

Unique details or features or components that, together or as an independent entity, form the architectural style of built environments which includes any part of the building, but excluding product design (furniture).
Designed but not built as on date. The projects will have to be actual proposed projects with a real site, following the relevant rules and regulations. Documental proof like LOA (Letter of appointment), building permit or similar has to be submitted in this regard (Proof to be uploaded along with the fact file). Hypothetical projects will not be entertained.
Small scale projects with site area up to 1 acre
Large scale projects with site area above 1 acre
The IIA State Awards for Excellence in Architecture-2023 shall cover projects completed ( in Kerala) between 01 January 2016 and 31 December 2023.
The submission process is entirely ONLINE, through the dedicated website – www.iiakeralaawards.com
The participants are requested to upload the following Documents:

Project Description (500 words maximum)- highlighting the project programme, site, context, planning, concepts, zoning, planning, challenges, opportunities, details, materials and solutions.

The fact file has to be printed if needed in the later stages of the shortlising. Matters to be filled in fact files to be as below
1. Please note that in the submitted (entries) drawings, reports and documents, participants should NOT mention/print/stick their name or firm name, logo, IIA membership number, or any other identifying mark. Having such identifications shall lead to the cancellation of entry.
2. Entry form to be filled online. The architect will have to keep their resume, office profile, passport size photograph, valid COA certificate and IIA certificate ready to upload.
3. A self-attested DECLARATION from the participant stating and confirming that the project is an original work of him or his firm and not of others, completed within the given period and further that no actions are pending against the said projects in any statutory authority concerned about any irregularity about the project.
Please Note:
1. In case of any entry submitted by a Partnership firm of Architects, at least one of the firm’s partners must be a valid member of IIA.
Further, if such entry wins an award, the Award and Certificate shall be given in the name of the first-mentioned name of a valid IIA member of the firm.
2. A member can send one or more projects/entries in any relevant categories. A separate set of Entry Forms & mandatory enclosures shall be filled and submitted online for each entry/project.
3. In the cases of rehabilitation, conservation, renovation or restoration projects, entries must include detailed documentation/images showing the prior existing structure. In the cases of Research category entries, - either published or non-published - Original Architectural Research Studies shall be submitted in soft copy (pdf). Two versions must be sent, one with, and one without, author names(s) and Institution/organisation.
4. In the case of Landscape Projects, the Plans/Photographs prior to the commencement of the Project are to be included.
5. The entry material sent to IIA for the AWARDS will be retained as a property of IIA. The Indian Institute of Architects shall be free to publish the entries in the Institute’s publication, display the same in the Exhibitions organised by the Institute, telecast through a media partner etc. The IIA shall entertain no claims for compensation or otherwise on any account.

IIA members having paid subscriptions up to 2024 or lifetime subscribers are eligible to participate in the awards. Non-IIA members with COA registration can apply for IIA membership (click here). The projects that have won awards or were shortlisted in any of the previous IIA Kerala State Awards are not eligible to participate again. Kerala Chapter Chairman, IIA Kollam Center Chairman, Awards Convener and their firms are not eligible for participation.
Based on entries received, the Jury, at its discretion, can choose to confer the Awards or to not give an award at all in each category.
The Awards are to be given to an individual Architect. If a Team / Firm submit an entry, the award shall be given to the Principal Architect of the Team / Firm or to a person nominated by Team / Firm.
The shortlisted participants shall prepare their Presentations in PowerPoint format, which will be used for offline presentations. Further details will be intimated to the shortlisted participants.
If the winner of an Award for whatsoever reason cannot be present at the Awards Presentation Programme, a nominee can receive the award on his behalf with prior notification.

Definitions : TThese terms & conditions for Nominees & delegates apply to every person registering for the IIA Kerala State Awards 2023, to be held in Dubai, UAE on 2024: (hereafter referred to as “the Awards"), organized by the IIA Kollam Centre (hereafter referred to as “the awards organizers”).
All references to a date or a deadline, mentioned in these terms and on other awards documents, refer to the Indian Standard Time Zone (IST).
Cancellation of the Awards: In the event that the awards cannot be held or is postponed due to events beyond the control of the awards organizers (force majeure) or due to events which are not attributable to wrongful intent or gross negligence of the awards organizers, the awards organizers cannot be held liable by delegates for any damages, costs, or losses incurred, such as transportation costs, accommodation costs, costs for additional orders, financial losses, etc.
Under these circumstances, the awards organizers reserve the right to either retain the entire registration fee and to credit it for a future awards, or to reimburse the delegate after deducting costs already incurred for the organization of the awards and which could not be recovered from third parties.
Modification of the program: The awards organizers reserve the right to modify the program. No refunds can be granted in case of cancellation of speakers, lack of space in the presentation room or any other incidents during the awards which are beyond the control of the awards organizers.
Visa requirements: It is the sole responsibility of the delegate to take care of his/her visa requirements. Delegates who require an entry visa must allow sufficient time for the application procedure. Delegates should contact the nearest Indian embassy or consulate to determine the appropriate timing of their visa applications.
